    Midnight before Vibes

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.

The studio is built (actually two studios in one 8 x 10 trailer room), and the lines have been tested. It sounds really good in the WPKN studio.

After the staff meeting tonight, they brought us out to the VIP viewing platform for a soundcheck and demo of the stage lighting. Word is they heard "Terrapin" over in Stratford. The lighting design is awesome. If you're going to Vibes, you're in for a treat.

We start at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow on 89.5 FM and online at http://tiny.cc/wpknlive.

    Building the studio

We're loading the rest of our stuff in today. The Radio Vibes Online station is set up and ready to go. In a little while we'll have our FM station ready.

Tuesday evening and all is quiet at Seaside

We're in the final preparations, and things are going well. It's the most ambitious Radio Vibes yet, with the Main Stage music on 89.5 FM, and the Green Vibes music and sustainability forums streaming on wpkn.org. Don Duffy has gone out of his way to wire the studio to enhance our streaming options, and set up our streaming channel at the park tonight. Dave Schwartz will set up our broadcast board tomorrow, and the fun begins Thursday at 9:00 a.m.

    The calm before the storm

They're working at a blistering pace at Seaside Park getting the site ready. My planning is done. With just a few things left to do before air time, I'm having an oddly calm afternoon.

It doesn't look like much now, but tomorrow it will be a beehive. We'll start loading gear into the trailer today, with the big setup tomorrow.

Don't forget to follow us on Twitter.

    For your late night entertainment

WPKN will have some great programming during the off-hours too. Our A-team of overnight hosts will keep you entertained throughout the weekend.

On Thursday night following Dark Star Orchestra, you'll hear Ed Flynn's Hell Raising Hootenanny – a mix of loud, rowdy rock n roll, 70's hard rock, rebel rousing country and Irish drinking songs – followed at 2 a.m. by Vibe Tribe favorite Terry Hopper with The Quest, a search for truth, beauty, and intensity. (Have you ever been experienced?)

On Friday night during and after Furthur, Bob Chamenko sits at the controls. (Desiccated skulls of long dead steers lie half buried in the sand of ancient arroyos, staring from empty sockets at intruding ravens that comb the desolate landscape in search of that which has succumbed to the elements. Fade to oblivion in the relentless beating sun.)

Saturday morning features The Car Bob Show, Hosted by Bob Costanzo. It's a listener interactive show with wide ranging topics from Auto repair, to the ethics, politics and news of transportation and energy today. Phone in with your questions and comments.

Saturday evening's festivities include Jeff Day's "Esoterica Etcetera" during after Primus, followed at 2 a.m. by Tom Poplawski's "Radio Free Arcadia" – a melange of sounds for the head, including psychedelic and progressive rock from everywhere, anytime.

Your other online resources for Radio Vibes

We have a Facebook page and we're on Twitter (@vibesradio). Post some photos and tell us what's happening in your corner of your favorite festie. Watch this space for schedules and commentary.

    We're one week away!

The phone company comes early? Who knew?

If you've ever wasted a day waiting for a utility company to come to your house, you'll know exactly how surprised I was to receive a call from an AT&T installer this morning. I have a work order in for the broadcast circuit between Seaside Park and the WPKN studio, but the installation date is tomorrow. They guy was a day early!

Once the line is in place, we send music from the bandshell over to our studio to test the line. Things really are moving along.

So now the production work really begins

I left things on hold for a couple of weeks, but now there's lot to do in the next week.

I have two interviews to edit: mine with Keller Williams, and Janet's with Gabrielle from the Kids' Tent. On Friday I'm interviewing Mickey Hart. Most of my PSAs, promos and station IDs are organized, but there are always a few strays on the computer.

The next job is making sure all the equipment is ready to be moved to the festival site once our trailer is ready. The rest of this week is going to be crazy.

A great big THANK YOU to the Vibe Tribe

When we made the appeal for funds for our remote broadcast circuit, people stepped up. You know who you are, and we thank you from the bottom of our sketchy little hearts!

    Best. Vibes. Ever.

Hey Vibe Tribe! Radio Vibes needs your help!

    UPDATE: The tickets are gone.
Don't let that stop you from making a donation. WPKN is listener-supported year 'round.

UPDATE: We now have a pair of VIP tickets avilable.

WPKN and Radio Vibes needs to raise money for a high speed phone line for use during the Vibes. A very dear friend of the Vibe Tribe has graciously donated a VIP ticket to be sold for the cause! Any donations, no matter the amount would be "grately" appreciated.

You can donate online at http://wpkn.org/. Please drop me a line letting me know how much you gave so I can add it to the running tally. If you prefer to donate by phone, or you're interested in the VIP ticket, call the station during business hours at 203-331-9756 and ask for Maureen.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward to meeting you at the Vibes!

    Dave
